Jury Duty

I understand that Jury Duty is our civic duty and something all citizens should be at least ok with if not honored to serve. But... is it just me or does the system seem a bit unfair? Lets take my wife for example. She religiously gets called upon every year and a half to serve whereas others we know have never received a summons once in their lives. As for my personal experience, I served on a jury for five weeks a couple years ago. So, in Arizona, if you have to serve you cannot be called upon for a year and half. Shouldn't that mean that I should not be called upon for about 37 and 1/2 years? I think so, how about you?

Relief for some - Bad news for others - Arizona Bethany Group Properties

Well it appears many of the Bethany Group Managed and owned properties have been turned over to receivership and taken over by new management. That is great news for all the current resident that no longer have to pick up all their things and move. The bad news...
Many workers at the properties have not been paid for months and may not receive any back pay. Our complements to those that stuck it out and did not up and leave along with their employer, The Bethany Group. It is such a shame but it is hard to blame the Bethany Group when bills just cannot be paid any longer and there is no equity for leverage. Lastly, who knows about current tenant's security deposits. It could be a complete loss for those residents and a bit of a surprise when they move out and realize that they are not getting their deposit back. It is a tough situation all they way around but all in all, it could have been a lot and I mean a lot worse.

Soft Rental Market in Arizona, but why?

Foreclosures in Arizona, and across the U.S., are up and loans are harder than ever to come by for buyers, so doesn't that mean that apartments should be filled up with renters? Not exactly. Actually, the foreclosures have created an opposite effect where renters are leaving apartment homes for single family homes. The over abundance of vacant homes and the over-built apartment complexes have created a soft rental market in Arizona and many apartment communities are feeling the effects.
Apartment owners are now having to drastically reduce rents and offer enticing specials to lure renters through the doors. The signs for specials are dusted off and out at the complexes for what looks to be the long haul. It may be a while before buyers begin repurchasing all these single family homes and until they do, apartment owners will be in competition for all those renters.
For more information about Local Arizona apartment specials read the article posted by the Arizona Republic on March 18, 2009. Read the article now.
